Singer Aaron Carter arrested in Georgia

He is facing several misdemeanor charges including DUI, possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana and possession of drug related objects, Habersham County Captain Floyd Canup said.

Pop star Aaron Carter was arrested Saturday in Georgia for driving under the influence and drug possession, police said. He is now in police custody.

ABC News reports that his female companion Madison Parker, who was riding in the vehicle, was arrested as well.

Earlier Saturday, Carter tweeted that he would not make a scheduled performance in Kansas City, Missouri, due to "transportation issues".

In addition to the DUI charge, Carter was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug-related objects. He promises to come back soon.

Aaron is the brother of Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter, and he recently entered hospital for exhaustion following a gig in Syracuse, New York; in February he was attacked after reportedly making a racist comment against his opening act.

It is unclear if Carter and Parker have attorneys.

Carter plans to give a sneak peak of new music and host a meet-and-greet in Birmingham, AL., on July 18, according to his Twitter page.
