Pittsburgh Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals

The Pirates played the division-rival St. Louis Cardinals in Pittsburgh on Friday, and the game got off to a rough start for Buccos starter Gerrit Cole when Jedd Gyorko hit a two-run homer in the first inning.

The St. Louis Cardinals are well within reach of the lead in the National League Central which is wide open. He has held opponents to two earned runs or fewer in 13 of his 19 starts.

The Cardinals will begin the second half of the season in Pittsburgh for a three game series with the Pirates.

Turkey Commemorates Failed Coup
Some 250 people died and 2,196 were wounded fighting the coup attempt by an army faction on 15 July past year . Turkey is holding a series of events to mark the first anniversary of last year's failed coup .

The Cardinals (44-46), third in the NL Central, kept the Pirates (43-48) from leapfrogging them.
