The man was there to fix a door lock, which got the better of him, Corpus Christi police spokesman Chris Hooper told The Washington Post.

On Wednesday afternoon, police responded to what they were sure was a joke when someone reported a man trapped in an ATM.

Each note had a similar message, "Please help".

The unidentified contractor, who had left his cellphone in his truck, encountered a problem with the lock. It was a repairman who had got stuck inside of an ATM and was forcing notes through the cash dispenser's receipt slot to gain the attention of people.

With Qatar holding firm to its position, a top Emirati diplomat cautioned that the diplomatic standoff could be prolonged. The GCC members Kuwait and Oman have not cut ties with Qatar.

No one was harmed, but a few traumatized ATM users may think twice the next time they reach for the receipt slot. "Please call my boss" along with his boss' phone number.

Pena said no one could hear the contractor in the ATM and said several officers had to kick the door in to rescue him.

Numerous note-recipients thought the help request was a joke, but someone did eventually call police and the man was freed.

"Everyone is okay, but you will never see this in your life, that somebody was stuck in the ATM, it was just insane", said Olden.
