The 19-year-old midfielder, a Brazil under-20 global, posted an image of himself at the 5 star Hotel Camiral ahead of his loan switch to Girona FC, which should be announced tomorrow or soon after.

The 19-year-old is reported to have cost £10 million, and is expected to head out on loan to City's sister club Girona in Spain.

The 19-year-old was a crucial part of his club's bid for promotion last season, which saw them finish third in the Brazilian Serie B and earn a return to the top flight.

Douglas has also represented Brazil at under-20 level, and City director of football Txiki Begiristain was thrilled that he chose to continue his development with the Premier League outfit.

The child's mother, Afraa Hajj Hammoud , said her husband Mohammed Belal thought of the name - and she liked the idea. The family's opportunity to flee Syria came five years into the atrocities of the war.

"He attracted the attention of City's scouts based in South America and is now set to follow in the footsteps of striker Gabriel Jesus, who has been a huge success following his move from Palmeiras in January".

Luiz becomes the fourth Man City signing of the summer following the arrivals of Kyle Walker, Bernardo Silva and Ederson.

The club will make a further statement in the coming days on whether Luiz will join the first team squad or be sent out on loan.

He has made 10 appearances for the Brazilian outfit this season, scoring a single goal.
