"I announce from here the end and the failure and the collapse of the terrorist state of falsehood and terrorism which the terrorist ISIS announced from Mosul", Abadi said in a speech shown on state television.

The city of Mosul was the main stronghold of the IS, since the group occupied it in June 2014, until its expulsion in July by joint Iraqi forces, in an offensive that began in October 2016.

Iraqi counterterrorism units reported on July 15 that they had detained 20 female Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants, including three Turkish citizens, captured in a secret tunnel discovered under the Old City neighborhood of Quleiat in Mosul.

Baghdad - Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi on Saturday attended a massive military parade in Baghdad celebrating the victory announced against the terror group ISIS in Mosul.

The company's bug-releasing van will start travelling the streets of Fancher Creek, a neighbourhood in Fresno County, on July 14. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has also been conducting their own research in bacteria-infected mosquitoes.

An official week-long celebration was declared countrywide. "The Iraqi army fought a battle that no army in the world had fought", the commander said.

The operation to retake the city, which was kicked off about 9 months ago, left lots of casualties and damages and displaced over 920,000 Iraqis. IS is still holding some remote parts of Iraq and major Syrian cities, such as Raqqa, its de facto capital in Syria.

According to the IOM, only five per cent of the displaced went to other Iraqi provinces, and more than 220,000 have already been able to return to their homes in the liberated areas of Mosul.

The celebrations took place despite reports of sporadic fighting between government forces and IS extremists in the Old City portion of west Mosul.

"The Iraqi forces in the Mosul operation made their utmost efforts to protect the civilians' lives".
