IIFA Awards 2017: Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt win top awards

Alia Bhatt, who has collaborated with the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) for the first time this year, can't hold on to the excitement and nervousness of her debut performance on the award night.

Rounding up the trio of serious- minded films was Pink, a movie about sexual violence against women, which got Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury the Best Director award. Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were the proud winners of the Best Actor. IIFA will be exclusively aired live on Colors channel on July 16.

As hosts, Karan Johar and Saif Ali Khan attempted to keep the humor alive, but beyond a point, the crowd wasn't very engaged and booed them in between.

The Best Performance in a Negative Role title went to Jim Sarbh for Neerja.

Katrina Kaif gave away the award to Shahid at the ceremony in NY, while Varun Dhawan announced Alia as the Best Actor - Female at the event, held at the Metlife Stadium. "The Untold Story, ' 'Neerja, ' 'Pink, ' 'Sultan" and 'Udta Punjab" to bag the honour.

Meanwhile, Shakun Batra and Ayesha Devitre Dhillon walked away with the award for Best Story.

In the Best Supporting Actor class, Shabana Azmi and Anupam Kher were respected for 'Neerja" and "M.S. Dhoni"; Varun Dhawan also awarded for his comic in "Dishoom"; and Disha Patani awarded with honor for her picture "M.S. Dhoni: "The Untold Story".

The best playback singer award was grabbed by Amit Mishra for Bulleya from "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil".

The actors were given away the prestigious IIFA Awards for their brilliant performance in "Udta Punjab".
