Did Chance the Rapper Save SoundCloud From Shutting Down?

TechCrunch reported earlier this week that, following the massive layoffs, SoundCloud still only had enough cash to last until the beginning of the fourth fiscal quarter of 2017, or around 80 days. In response to the rumours that their platform is shutting down, Soundcloud tweeted saying "*airhorn* Spread the word: "your music isn't going anywhere. Despite increasing signs that the music streamer is struggling, Chance continued that tradition on Friday night, debuting "Big B's", a collaboration with Young Thug, exclusively on SoundCloud. Your music is safe.

Chicago's Chance The Rapper isn't here for the name-dragging.

At the beginning of the month, SoundCloud laid off 40% of its workforce and closed its offices in San Francisco and London.

Posts comparing Chinese president Xi Jinping to the cartoon bear - a longstanding joke in China - were also taken down. The Chinese government is famous for censoring particular words around the time of big political events.

The new track was released on the heels of troubling news for the influential music streaming site. "@ an artist who you wouldn't know if not for SoundCloud", he wrote.

In a blog post on SoundCloud's website, Ljung assured fans that the rumors are just "noise", adding, "The music you love on SoundCloud isn't going away, the music you shared or uploaded isn't going away, because SoundCloud is not going away".

Chance, whose career began thanks to SoundCloud, recently Tweeted out a message which seemed to indicate that he has had contact with SoundCloud's CEO, and tried to organise a resolution to the company's apparent crisis.
