Defending Ganguly, BJP leader Rahul Sinha said, "Don't go by the words; go by the feeling behind it". These remarks empowers those who make such objectionable statements against victims of rape and sexual assault. "She has spoken on what the situation is presently".

The FIR was lodged against Ganguly at the Nimta police station under Barrackpore police commissionerate yesterday (July 15) for her reportedly controversial remark that wives and daughters in Bengal can not survive for 15 days without getting raped, a senior police officer of the commisionerate told PTI today.

Police cases were lodged on Saturday against BJP Rajya Sabha member Roopa Ganguly and party's West Bengal unit chief Dilip Ghosh for making controversial remarks about women safety in the state and targeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee respectively. "If they are able to survive there for 15 days without getting raped, then tell me", Ganguly was quoted as saying by ANI.

Refuting her statement, Trinamool Congress asked her how many times she has faced what ever she is claiming. State Power Minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, in an interview to news agency ANI, said: "First of all, she should say how many times she has been raped in Bengal". Before accusing anything or anyone, she should reveal this.

Ganguly's follow-up on her freaky statement saying-a fortnight was longer than women could survive in the state without protection-is even worse. "If one does not have sources, he can not get his work done", she said.

However, the controversy took to a new level when the comments were countered by TMC leader Shovandeb Chattopadhyay.

"Tapas Paul openly said he will send people to get women raped. They have no right to speak, since they are helping rapists and miscreants", he said.
