Bowlsby arrived as the Big 12 was coming out of realignment, losing original members Missouri, Nebraska, Colorado and Texas A&M to other conferences and gaining West Virginia and TCU.

"It gets a little tiresome because I know we play at a very high level", Bowlsby said, "and I know that top to bottom we're the best in the country in terms of balance".

FRISCO - Flanked on both sides by five comically brawny mannequins, each representing a different school, commissioner Bob Bowlsby delivered his State of the Big 12 address to open media days at the Ford Center. I think we play at an exceedingly high level, and I think over the 12 years of the playoff, you'll see Big 12 teams in there.

"I feel like I'm a pretty young 65", Bowlsby said. But make no mistake. "It's cyclical. I think we'll win our share of national championships".

Additionally, the Big 12 Digital Network will cover the two days from beginning to end, with interviews with student-athletes, coaches and other individuals.

It's a strong statement from the head of a conference that hasn't won a National Championship since Vince Young's heroics in the 2006 Rose Bowl and hasn't made the national championship game since Oklahoma and Texas lost in back to back years in 2010 and 2009. It also was the only one without a conference championship game, which was added for the upcoming season after a six-season hiatus.

Army spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia said that three militants have been killed in an operation in the district. During the gunfight, three local militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit were killed, officer added.

Bowlsby said he doesn't recall finances of the title game ever being discussed, though it could generate another $30 million to the league that split a record $348 million among its teams for the 2016-17 academic year.

One thing the Big 12 has done to help its playoff case in December is reintroducing the Big 12 championship game, which this year will be held at AT&T Stadium.

The length of the extension takes Bowlsby through the length of the current television contracts with ESPN and Fox. "I plan on being here a while".

PRESENCE MISSING - Bowlsby noted the absence of Bob Stoops, who surprisingly stepped down as coach at Oklahoma. "He was a tremendous influence on his staff, on his players, on his university over a very long period of time. His legacy is extraordinary".

Pivoting back to that shiny new 13 data point, Bowlsby said the decision to revive the Big 12 title game was "made 100 percent on our ability to optimize the likelihood of getting a team into the CFP".

The Big 12 is also breaking in three brand new head coaches in Matt Rhule, Tom Herman, and Lincoln Riley. "They are superstars, each one in their own right".
