Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has said that it "would be great" if the Catalan giants signed Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti this summer, but the Spaniard is not obsessing over the deal.

"A player who can play in all three positions would be wonderful, because playing in that position means you're always fighting for game time so the more positions you can play in, the more opportunities you'll have".

"This is my message to him: I hope he helps us achieve our dream".

"My intention is to have the best squad possible, but it's hard to make it much better because of what we have here", Valverde said in a news conference on Monday amid a barrage of questions about Verratti. "Until the last day of the market, nothing can be ruled out", He said. Obviously we've had discussions but to ask for "this player", no. "I am really happy with them and the idea of getting to know them better". It's hard to improve what's in the team.

Yesterday technical director Robert Fernandez confirmed Barca are still in pursuit.

"Barca are always monitoring the best players".

"If an opportunity arises, we'll try to take it, but it's not easy to buy a player who has a contract with an important club".

PSG coach Unai Emery is understood to have asked for Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic to be made part of the deal if the French club sell Veratti to Barça.

He has now established himself as one of the most talked about young talents in world football and Barca stars Lionel Messi and Neymar have also reportedly encouraged their club to consider signing the youngster. Fernadez replied: "I don't think that is going to happen".
