Assam govt to provide new textbooks to flood-hit students

Officials said that close to 25,000 flood-affected people are taking shelter in 129 relief camps set up by the government in different districts.

With this, the toll in this year's flood-related cases has gone up to 59, including eight in Guwahati.

Assam Finance and Education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said the state government has made a decision to provide textbooks to the flood affected students within the month of August, those lost their textbooks in the flood. Due to the impact of the flood waters, many roads, embankments and bridges have been damaged in many districts, including Cachar, Biswanath, Barpeta, Morigaon and Chirang.

Several rivers in the region, including Brahmaputra and its tributaries, flowed above the danger mark.
