Wallace has taken on a role at i.am.+, a company founded by Black Eyed Peas musician will.i.am, as its chief marketing officer. He's not the first one too, following Andy Fouché, Head of Communications, Business Insider reports. Prior to joining the Rubin-backed venture, he worked at Samsung on the iPhone-targeting "Next Big Thing" campaign and more recently at augmented reality startup Magic Leap.

While companies in the consumer electronics space regularly see some turnover, the departures come at a high-profile time for Essential.

Unveiled back in May, the modestly-named Essential Phone packs a 5.7in edge-to-edge QHD display that reaches the very top of the handset to surround the 8MP front-facing camera.

There was consternation back in May when Andy Rubin's Essential PH-1 phone was revealed as an exclusive of America's fourth placed network, Sprint.

Specs-wise, you'll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor under the hood, paired with 4GB RAM, 128GB storage and a 3,040mAh battery.

Now the only confirmed peripheral is a 360-degree camera which attaches to the phone via a magnetic pin connector it calls "Click", which cleverly transmits data to attachments over a wireless connection. Essential also announced plans to launch Home, a voice-controlled speaker-like device for smart home devices.

That's according to the Financial Times, which reports that Essential is in talks with United Kingdom carriers, namely EE, about a potential exclusivity deal.

Niccolo de Masi says the United States launch is "imminent". At Code Conference, Rubin gave a loose release date for the phone, saying that it would ship around late June.

According to The Financial Times, Andy Rubin's company has already held talks with United Kingdom operators for the Essential Phone launch. The minimalist modular phone, which was created for "trend setters and technology seekers", according to the company's chief operating officer Niccolo de Masi, was supposed to start shipping in the U.S. within 30 days or so from the official announcement. Rubin joined Google when the search giant acquired startup Android in 2005.
