An Indiana woman who was scheduled to get married this weekend will instead spend the day helping the homeless, the Indianapolis Star reports.

American woman Sarah Cummins from IN told the Indianapolis Star she cancelled the wedding a week ago, but declined to give a reason.

A week ago, she called it off (she prefers not to say why), and both were left with broken hearts and a nonrefundable contract for a venue and a plated dinner for 170 guests Saturday night at the Ritz Charles in Carmel.

Cummins said she decided that rather than throw away the food she would bring some goal to the event, so she contacted homeless shelters in the area.

Sarah Cummins was heartbroken when she chose to call off her wedding a week before she was set to be married Saturday.

The bride-to-be made several teary phone calls to family and friends and informed them that the wedding had been called off, However, the caterers wouldn't budge when she told them what had happened.

Everything will be the same as it would have been had the wedding not been canceled, Cummins said, except there will be no head table for the bridal party, no cake table and no gift table.

'It was really devastating.

If she can hold her tears back, Cummins is planning on staying for the dinner with her mum and bridesmaids.

'I wanted to make sure it would be the flawless wedding'.

"For me, it was an opportunity to let these people know they deserved to be at a place like this just as much as everyone else does", she added.

"I was so touched that Sarah had taken a painful experience and turned it into a joyful one for families in need", Herzog told the paper.

As for Cummins, she said her canceled wedding won't only be heartache, as she will have kind of a happy memory to draw from, as she had planned on making it the ideal celebration.

She will soon be heading on her honeymoon to the Dominican Republic for a solo adventure before returning to her graduate studies in pharmacy at Purdue University.

"I'm going by myself".

"I'm happy through my grief and also Sarah's that she was able to make a selfless and very thoughtful decision in such a hard time", said Araujo, who would like for mom Kimberly Araujo, who recently passed away, to be remembered at the dinner.
