Vale, assistant director in charge of the FBI Washington Field Office, said the shooter acted alone and the case is being investigated as an assault on a member of Congress, not as a terrorist incident.

An FBI news release said Hodgkinson took multiple photographs of Eugene Simpson Stadium Park, the scene of the shooting, in mid-April.

GJELTEN: Agent Slater said it appears Hodgkinson's decision to shoot up a Republican baseball practice was more spontaneous than planned.

The FBI found a laptop computer, a cell phone, and a digital camera in Hodgkinson's vehicle.

"Congressman Steve Scalise continues to make good progress", MedStar Washington Hospital Center said in a statement. Prior to his departure from IL, a neighbor reported Hodgkinson to police for firing a gun on his property, but police determined he had not committed a crime.

The compact left-hander then began unfurling cuts and pulls as the dominant partner in a stand of 105 with Hales from 10.3 overs. England , who had been 133 for two at the start of the 16th over, lost four wickets for 34 runs before finishing on 171 for six.

Scalise, 51, of Louisiana, the third-ranking House Republican, was among four people shot June 14 by a gunman identified as James Hodgkinson, 66, of Belleville, Illinois, who died after a shootout with police. The VA is the second-largest department in the USA government, with more than 350,000 employees, and it is charged with providing health care and other services to military veterans.

Officials also said Hodgkinson had kept a storage locker in Alexandria and visited it 43 times between April and June, usually between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. A family member told investigators Hodgkinson had expressed a desire to return to IL in a message on June 12. "He was married for 30 years, and it appears that that marriage was not going so well", Slater said.

During his time in the D.C. area, Hodgkinson visited various sites along the National Mall, including the U.S. Capitol, the Library of Congress and the Supreme Court, based on photos and videos retrieved from his cellphone, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said. Hodgkinson's arrest in 1992 by Illinois State Police for suspicion of resisting and obstructing a peace officer also was dismissed.

Investigators also reviewed Hodgkinson's online searches and browsing history, revealing queries for the "2017 Republican Convention" and directions from Alexandria to his IL home on the night before the shooting.

The group of lawmakers and staffers were practicing for a charity game against a team of Democrats that was played the next day and raised over $1 million.

The gunman turned out to be an unemployed home inspector with a deep animus toward President Donald Trump and other Republicans.
