Trump not under investigation in Russia probe: Lawyer

He lashed out at a top Justice Department official overseeing the inquiry, reflecting his mounting frustration with the unrelenting controversy that has consumed his early presidency. But by the time he issued his final report in 1998, he had not only shifted his focus to whether Bill Clinton had perjured himself in testifying about hanky-panky with a White House intern, Monica Lewinsky, he had also investigated everything from Vince Foster's suicide to the firing of White House travel office personnel, the improper handling of Federal Bureau of Investigation files, and a wide variety of the Clintons' business activities before Bill became president.

Last week, Trump sent a tweet referring to being the victim of a "witch hunt".

After Sekulow had begun the interview the way he had his others by stating that Trump is not under investigation, Wallace brought up Trump's tweet confirming he was being investigated to ask a different question - why is the president going after Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein?

Again, Sekulow left out some key points, which Wallace and others were only too happy to raise: Trump later told NBC's Lester Holt that he had already made up his mind to fire Comey regardless of the recommendation from Sessions and that he was firing him because he was unhappy with the Russian Federation investigation.

Sekulow repeatedly stressed that President Trump was not under investigation, and added that Trump was "very efffective" in his use of social media.

Sekulow did acknowledge on "Fox News Sunday" that he "can't read people's minds", but said there had been "no notification of an investigation" of the president by Mueller.

"Comey would not say in public what he was saying to Trump in private, which is you're not being investigated", he said.

"Nothing has changed" since Comey informed the president that he was not being personally investigated, he said. "That's undemocratic on its face and a blatant violation of the president's oath of office".

The lawyer also suggested Twitter s character limit may be partly to blame.

Police said the male driver had also been taken to hospital as a precaution and would receive a mental health assessment. This comes after a month after three knife-wielding Islamist attackers went on a rampage in London killing seven people.

On Twitter Friday, Trump wrote as part of a tweet about the probe that "I am being investigated".

President Donald Trump is beginning his day with a stream of tweets defending his record and lashing out at the investigation into Russian interference in the election. "I'm not prepared to say that there is proof you could take to a jury, but I can say there's enough that we ought to be investigating".

The attorney, Jay Sekulow, appeared on several Sunday news programs to counter the impression that Trump has acknowledged he's become a target of the expanding Russian Federation probe.

"Americans should be skeptical about anonymous allegations", Rosenstein said. But a department official said no one asked for the statement and Rosenstein acted on his own.

The five people spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly. The FBI was prepared to cast a wide net-and now that the investigation is being headed by a special counsel, there are no limits to how wide it will be.

Vice President Pence has obtained legal counsel, as has Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen. Will Rosenstein quit before he's fired or will Trump fire him before he quits?

Mueller, the FBI director before Comey, has not released any details on the investigation.

The order from the general counsel for the transition team casts a wide net on documents that could shed light on ties between Trump's presidential campaign and representatives of Russia's government. "His lawyer wants to take down Bob Mueller", Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., told ABC News' This Week Co-Anchor Martha Raddatz in an exclusive interview Sunday.
