Steve Scalise celebrates Father's Day in wake of shooting

Scalise was in dire condition when he was shot at the Congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia, on Wednesday.

U.S. congressman and senior Republican Steve Scalise has been upgraded from "critical" to "serious condition" and continues to show signs of improvement after being shot while he practised for a charity baseball game.

The man who opened fire on Republican lawmakers practicing baseball had angrily railed against President Donald Trump the day before the shooting.

Hodgkinson of IL, died after being shot by Capitol Police officers.

Scalise, the number three Republican in the House of Representatives, arrived at the hospital in a critical state, facing "an imminent risk of death", according to Sava.

Capitol Police officer David Bailey and Texas Rep. Roger Williams were also injured during the incident. Scalise has undergone number surgeries so far, and his recovery is expected to be lengthy.
