More broadly, the Max family is Boeing's update to its popular 737 line of jetliners that are used mostly for medium- and short-haul flights by airlines across the globe.

Airbus sales boss John Leahy suggested that numerous orders for his competitor's new model were from existing customers simply converting from older models.

The chief executive officer of Boeing's commercial planes operations, Kevin McAllister, said Monday that the 737 Max-10 will offer customers more flexibility and seating space. "Max 8 and Max 9 continue to be at the heart of the market".

Boeing came to Paris with the idea of launching its new 737 MAX 10 (737-10) and had taken orders or commitments for 307 of the planes on Monday.

The B737 Max 10 will be 66 inches longer than the B737 Max 9 variant, and will be capable of carrying up to 230 passengers, with the aim of competing with Airbus' A321 neo.

The MAX 10 is created to fill a gap in the Boeing product lineup versus the Airbus A321neo LR.

Boeing claims the 737 had the lowest operating cost of any single-aisle plane ever produced, combining more passengers with better fuel efficiency; the latest model can carry 220 passengers, up from 172 in previous models.

But Boeing generated a fresh burst of activity at the world's biggest airshow by launching the 737 MAX 10 to plug a gap in its portfolio at the top end of the market for single-aisle jets following runaway sales of European rival Airbus' A321neo.

Mr Varadkar added: "We want to make sure that there is minimal or no disruption to trade between our two countries". When there is an attack on London, we in Ireland feel it is nearly an attack on us as well", Varadkar said.

The MAX 10 is created to stem the loss of sales to the rival Airbus A321neo, which has won more than 1,400 orders.

The new 737 MAX 10 will add to that legacy, providing United with another in a long line of highly successful aircraft.

At the ongoing Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, the airline said it has signed a memorandum of understanding for 40 737 Max aircraft which are valued at approximately $4.74 billion at current list prices. Its all-Boeing jetliner fleet includes 17 Boeing 737-800s, four Boeing 737-900ERs, and one Boeing 737-300 Freighter, which serves more than 50 domestic and regional destinations.

SpiceJet operates a fleet of 35 Next-Generation 737s and 19 Bombardier Q400s. With growing air traffic and rising congestion at key hubs, the Boeing 737 MAX 10 is expected to ease the problem for Indian airlines.

The company's annual Current Market Outlook (CMO) was released today at the Paris Air Show, with total airplane demand rising 3.6 percent over last year's forecast.

The Boeing boss said there was an estimated demand for about 41,000 new commercial planes over the next two decades.

Boeing also has written a firm order for 30 787-9 Dreamliners with lessor AerCap and an MOU for eight of the same model with China's CDB Leasing.
