The 66-year-old New Yorker, who has been with various units of Airbus since 1985, has outlasted more than a half-dozen counterparts at Boeing since he was appointed chief salesman in 1994.

Employees install a MC-21 flight simulator of a Russian single-aisle airliner, at Paris Air Show, on the eve of its opening, in Le Bourget, east of Paris, France, Sunday, June 18, 2017.

Among the 130 aircraft on display, the star will likely be the cutting-edge F-35 stealth jet fighter, which costs around $100 million each.

The company showed off the jet plane, which has a new wing design to improve aerodynamics, ahead of the Paris Airshow.

U.S. President Donald Trump has called North Atlantic Treaty Organisation obsolete and excoriated European allies last month for not spending enough on their own defenses. Lockheed has reportedly booked $37 billion in orders for the F-35 and is shopping for customers for the civilian version of its J model C-130.

Engineers, test pilots, medics and others experts are "digging into this problem 24 hours a day", to try to identify the cause, Canterbury said.

Mumbai, Jun 19 Budget carrier spicejet today signed an initial pact with the U.S. aircraft maker Boeing Co for 40 737 MAX planes.

The agreement for 40 aircraft, valued at $4.7 billion at current list prices, includes an order for 20 new 737 MAX 10 planes and conversion of 20 of SpiceJet's 737 MAX 8 aircraft from an existing order, the two companies said in a statement on Monday.

Boeing, meanwhile, is to showcase the 737 Max 9 model as its anti-Airbus weapon in a market segment where the capacity to squeeze a few more seats into a narrow-body cabin while eking out increased fuel efficiency over greater ranges is key. He will be able to carry 80 passengers or more to fly 300 nautical miles farther than the previous version of the aircraft.

Airbus and Boeing orders have seen a downturn in recent years after a buying spree by Mideast and Asian carriers. Test flights have been completed and Boeing is now talking to customers about ordering the Max 10. They compete with Airbus planes in the A320-neo family, aiming at a similar short- to mid-range market.

The salesman used his influence in pushing Airbus to upgrade the A320, allowing it to bring the model to market nearly 18 months before the revamped 737, turning the aircraft into the fastest-selling new model in commercial aviation history.

Macron, trying to raise his global profile, appears to have chosen the A400-M to give a boost of confidence to the long-troubled European military transporter project.
