President Trump told Fox News on Friday that Mueller's friendship with Comey "very bothersome", nothing they were "very, very good friends".

Trump did not say exactly what he thought had changed about Comey's story.

A day after tweeting that he does not have taped conversations between himself and Comey, Trump addressed the scenario he helped raise in the first place.

But Trump also hinted that the tweet was meant to influence Comey's testimony before Congress regarding possible collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign during the 2016 presidential election.

'In response to the committee's inquiry, we refer you to President Trump's June 22, 2017, statement regarding this matter, ' the two paragraph letter read.

Asked on Fox News whether Mr Mueller should step down, Mr Trump said: "We're going to have to see".

Mr Trump also said that the people who were hired by the special counsel's office were "all Hillary supporters".

Investigators will also weigh the credibility of Mr Comey against a president who has shown a wobbly commitment to accuracy.

Trump had indicated back on May 17 that he might have recorded his conversations with Comey who he later fired.

Germany downs Cameroon to gain Confed Cup semis amid more replay confusion
Despite a positive start to the encounter for Hugo Broos' side, the Germans took the lead three minutes into the second half. Sanchez went tumbling and Chile appealed for a penalty but the Video Assistant Referee ruled that it was a fair tackle.

"Robert Mueller is an honorable man, so hopefully he'll come up with an honorable solution", Trump said.

"Lordy, I hope there are tapes", said Comey. "You're going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer", Trump added.

While White House officials have said the firing was due to concerns about Comey's actions at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Trump told an interviewer the Russian Federation investigation was one of his concerns in taking the action.

Trump has disputed Comey's assertion that Trump asked Comey for a pledge of loyalty during a dinner meeting they had.

He later claimed that he did not tape his meetings with the former Federal Bureau of Investigation boss, although his adviser Kellyanne Conway told CNN that the President was leaving "open the possibility that they may exist".

Wording in Trump's tweet, admitting he didn't record Comey but others may have, was meant to try and shield Trump from obstruction of justice and tampering with a witness claims. "It certainly had that flavor to it", Norm Eisen, the White House ethics czar under former President Barack Obama, told CNN Thursday night.

Comey explained the process during the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing. "I don't know how this serves the country's interests". "There are multiple obstruction crimes under our law, and one of them is intimidating a witness".

That claim quickly raised concerns that Mr Trump, like some past United States presidents, was secretly recording all of his conversations in the White House.
