Meanwhile, the Government pursues an austerity policy inflicting hardship on most citizens while cutting taxes and being forced to borrow money from, and pay interest on loans to, the very section of society that owns the unoccupied properties that overlook the burnt-out shell of Grenfell Tower.

As the news broke and unfolded concern began to grow about similar blocks in Chelmsford.

John Synnuck, Chief Executive, Swan Housing Association offered condolences on behalf of the housing company to those who werre directly affected by the tragic incident in London. The building is managed by the Kensington and Chelsea Tenant Management Organisation.

"Where these health and safety consultants make recommendations that would improve fire safety, we then take action to implement these measures as soon as possible".

"But being with colleagues from the London Fire Brigade when I was in there, colleagues from the London Ambulance Service and other police officers, I think it's fair to say it is incredibly emotional working in there".

"In addition, our teams regularly inspect communal areas and ensure that they are kept clear of any items that might hinder people exiting the building in an emergency".

'It's only because we know the brother, he's a fireman, that he told us this - but he can't tell you lot that.

Mr Cundy said the death toll may still change, but not as significantly as it has in recent days, adding: "The very bad reality is that we may not be able to identify all those that died inside what is now a blackened and charred shell".
