Sources tell FOX 2 Cornell hung up on his wife at 11:35 p.m., and she called a body guard to check in on him. In a statement to several media outlets, his representative Brian Bumbery confirmed Cornell's death calling it "sudden and unexpected".

Before his performance on Wednesday night, Cornell tweeted about how excited he was to be back in Detroit.

Cornell was a leader of the grunge movement with Seattle-based Soundgarden - with whom he gained critical and commercial acclaim - but also found success outside the band with other projects, including Audioslave, Temple of the Dog as well as solo albums. "There was about two years where I was more or less agoraphobic and didn't deal with anybody, didn't talk to anybody, didn't have any friends at all".

Audioslave and Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell has died, The Associated Press reports.

Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Mudhoney were among the most high-profile bands to come out of Seattle and dominated the pop culture landscape of the early and mid-1990s.

This Loud List is a bittersweet one as we reflect on the legacy that Chris Cornell left behind. They delivered hit singles such as "Cochise" and "Like a Stone" and their self-titled debut album was nominated for Rock Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards.

The band broke up in 1997 but later reformed.

The Senate Intelligence Committee and House Government Oversight Committee have each requested Comey testify before their panels. Burr says he would welcome Flynn's willingness to cooperate. "We'll figure out on General Flynn what the next step, if any, is".

In 1991, he "collaborated with members of what would become Pearl Jam to form Temple of the Dog", the AP reported. Cornell released his first solo album, Euphoria Morning, in 1999, and in 2001, he formed the supergroup Audioslave with Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine. Their most successful single, "Like a Stone" released in 2003. Woody repeated that police are investigating Cornell's death Wednesday night as a possible suicide, and that the investigation continues.

The group's defining moment was a 2005 concert in Cuba, which at the time was billed as the country's first outdoor rock concert by an American band.

Cornell also released four solo studio albums and a solo live album. Elton John tweeted, "Shocked and saddened by the sudden death of (at) chriscornell".

"It's really sad that he could never find peace in his life", said Chad White, who came to the art display with his young son Ignatius to honor Cornell.

Here, we see not only Cornell as a musician, but also as a family man and a guy with a great sense of humor. The station played non-stop songs from Soundgarden and Cornell's other bands and solo work, as well as artists who covered Cornell's material and those who were influenced by him.

But fame found them anyway, turning Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell, and Eddie Vedder into a new kind of idol: scrappy art-punks, skaters, and dropouts suddenly thrust into the role of stadium-filling, magazine-covering millionaires.

The breakup wasn't anything unusual, Cornell told CNN in 2012.
