In his subsequent letter to McCabe, Chaffetz said if the report was true and if "Mr. Comey created similar memos, including some that are classified about every phone call and meeting he had with the president", those memoranda raise questions about whether or not the President attempted to influence or impede the FBI's investigation of Flynn.

Chaffetz went on to ask for all copies of any existing memoranda written by Comey.

"We're a long ways from a conviction - the fact that we simply have a headline in The New York Times, " Republican Representative Trey Gowdy told Fox News.

Later, the Senate judiciary committee whose subcommittee is also investigating Russian meddling into the U.S. election, requested that the FBI "provide all memos relating to former FBI Director Comey's interactions with his superiors in both the Trump and Obama administrations", according to a statement. "At worst, he has obstructed justice".

Israeli intelligence experts are concerned that Trump's sharing of classified info with Russian Federation may have compromised an Israeli agent but don't expect any long-term consequences for intelligence cooperation. "It hasn't recovered from that". Republicans have been hesitant to even appear to want to investigate events involving the Trump-Russia connection and the Trump White House.

"Regardless of [the] recommendation, I was going to fire Comey,"Trump stated".
