Rear-end crash in Ashland County fatal

The auto he was driving rear-ended a school bus in Salem, Wisconsin just north of the IL border Friday morning in the 24500 block of Wilmot Road.

There were 18 students on the bus.

The Ashland County Coroner pronounced the driver of the vehicle dead at the scene. "The actual bumper of the back of the bus, it appears like it went nearly to the back of the passenger seat or the driver's seat".

The crash is under investigation by the Ashland County Sheriff's Office and a full scene reconstruction was underway by the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The school district said in a Facebook post that all of the students on the bus and the bus driver have been released from the hospital.

Beth, whose daughter attends Westosha Central, but does not use the bus, said the crash triggered his parental instincts.

Pending notification of family, the identity of the driver has not been released.
