Trump is also under pressure over accusations he asked then-FBI Director James Comey to end the agency's investigation into the Russian Federation ties of former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Michael Flynn and other advisers to Donald Trump's campaign were in contact with Russian officials and others with Kremlin ties in at least 18 calls and emails during the last seven months of the 2016 presidential race, current and former USA officials familiar with the exchanges said.

"I think that the White House is playing word games", Greg Miller said on CNN's "Erin Burnett OutFront".

The Post first report that Trump in a meeting with Lavrov and Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak shared classified information about an Islamic State plot to smuggle a bomb disguised as a laptop aboard a passenger plane.

The New York Times reported on Tuesday that Mr Comey wrote a memo following a meeting with the president on 14 February, saying that Mr Trump had asked him to close an investigation into Mr Flynn's actions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Moscow is ready to provide US Congress with a transcript of the talks between President Donald Trump and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The meeting came amid an ongoing Federal Bureau of Investigation inquiry and congressional hearings into possible Russian influence in the 2016 U.S. election.

Trump fired Flynn in February after it became clear that he had falsely characterised the nature of phone conversations with Kislyak in late December - after the November 8 election and just after the Obama administration announced new sanctions on Russian Federation. "Sure, send it our way", he said.

Saudi king touts Trump's Islamic summit as "new partnership"
Saudi leaders felt Obama was reluctant to get involved in the civil war in Syria and was tilting toward Shiite-dominated Iran. Donald Trump will give a speech on confronting radical Islam this month during his visit to Saudi Arabia.

Putin recalled that Italy is one of Russia's leading foreign trade partners.

Why did Putin step in when he did?

Speaking at a news conference alongside Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni in the Black Sea resort of Sochi, Putin quipped that Lavrov was remiss for not passing on what he made clear he believed were non-existent secrets. However, the Kremlin tipped journalists off at least two hours before that Putin would speak about this.

And instead of realizing the rapprochement it once hoped for with a Trump-led United States, the Kremlin now worries that Trump could set back US-Russian relations for decades. In the photo below, both Lavrov (on the left) and Kislyak (on the right) looked pleased to meet Trump. "That is very bad of him", Putin said. The White House declined to confirm the report.

British PM Theresa May meanwhile said Trump is free to decide what to discuss with White House visitors, while stressing that London's relationship with Washington was "the most important defence and security relationship" around the world.

Is there any chance the White House will release its own transcript?

Russia has repeatedly said that Trump's opponents are trying to damage him and Moscow by making what it says are false accusations about the billionaire president and the Russian government which initially had high hopes of a rapprochement. Also, Italian investments in the Russian economy total more than $1 billion, while Russian investments in Italy stand at $2.4 billion.
