After his side played a boring goalless draw on Wednesday night against Southampton, Mourinho also asked the coach of Crystal Palace Sam Allardyce to go easy in the match.

Victory over Ajax would secure Champions League qualification for 2017-18.

With United boss Jose Mourinho having indicated he will field a weakened team at the weekend in order to keep his big names fresh for the Europa League Final, the match looks like being something of a damp squib. I never saw that with Chelsea, I never saw that with Manchester United, I never saw that with Manchester City a year ago.

However, at his pre-match press conference at Palace's Beckenham training ground, Allardyce said: "We are going to play the last game with the fittest team we have got".

"We played a good team, a team who tried to win and tried to finish well", Mourinho said after visiting goalkeeper Sergio Romero saved a barrage of hard shots, including Manolo Gabbiadini's fifth-minute penalty.

Romero will be rested when United take on Crystal Palace in their final Premier League game of the season at Old Trafford on Sunday, with Portuguese youngster Joel Pereira set for his debut.

Charles Grassley welcomed Trump's firing of Comey, and told critics to 'Suck it up and move on, ' in an appearance on Fox News. For a start, the offer left everyone guessing about what kind of "record" Putin has of his diplomats' meeting with Trump.

"It's frustrating for me". He tells [Wilfried] Zaha to go slow, he leaves [Christian] Benteke at home. "I think we did more than OK", Mourinho said. "On a Wednesday night, to travel all the way to Southampton for a 0-0 draw is good and we need that [support] on Sunday [against Crystal Palace] and in the final".

Southampton struggled to relieve the pressure building on manager Claude Puel against an under-strength United.

"I couldn't protect him as he needed to play".

"We played a good team, a team who tried to win and tried to finish well". Now Jose gave me a lot of confidence and the players give me a lot of confidence. I think we did more than okay, " Mourinho said.

"Of course, Sergio had a very good performance". The Saints have also failed to score in their last four home games as they prepare to host 14th-placed Stoke City in the final game of the season on Sunday.
