HTC reveals new, squeezable smartphone

It has the usual competitive specifications for a flagship smartphone such as a 5.5-inch, Quad HD display, and Snapdragon 835 processor with 4GB RAM. The phone's user interface - Edge Sense - has been redesigned from scratch to allow for a pressure-sensitive outer frame that allows users to specific tasks simply by squeezing it.

The U11 also has another new feature, it is the first device to feature Amazon's voice-powered digital assistant Alexa which enables users to get access to music as well as news and weather updates and a host of other things. It comes in Amazing Silver, Sapphire Blue, Brilliant Black, Ice White, and Solar Red.

HTC has announced the U11, a flagship smartphone which responds to squeezes along the side edge. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and the phone has a liquid glass surface made with Optical Spectrum Hybrid Deposition.

The DxOMark report says HTC U11's images have a "pleasing look, with good colour rendering", and images taken outdoors are vibrant with great detail. It runs Android 7.0 and HTC's own Sense UI skin, and has 64GB of storage (expandable with a microSD card) and 4 GB of RAM. The front-facing camera has a 16-megapixel sensor.

Aside from the fact that HTC U11 dominates the camera section, as per DxOMark's tests and photo samples, it also come almost close to Galaxy S8's capacity as far as technical specs are concerned.

Design wise the HTC U11 is relatively familiar territory for fans of the firm's manufacturing aesthetic; it's a nice and tidy slab, which tapers towards the edges and has all these handsome ports and grilles punched in various places.

The U11 is shipped with a HTC Usonic headset along with a USB-C adapter with a built-in DAC which provides compatibility with other devices and an optimum audio performance.

Its connectivity options include 4G, LTE, 3G, GPRS/EDGE, Wi-Fi, GPS/AGPS, GLONASS, Wi-Fi Direct, WLAN, Bluetooth, USB OTG, and USB Type-C.

The HTC U11 also comes with a fingerprint sensor, camera-based face detection, and a sensor hub for activity tracking.

- HTC U11 supports 360-degree audio-recording capabilities, which means the phone essentially works as an Omni-directional microphone to give you hi-resolution sound quality. On the battery front, it has a 3000 mAh unit with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, which claims to deliver a talk time of up to 24.5 hours and standby time of up to 14 days.
