The governors of Wisconsin and Oklahoma toured the destruction in their states Wednesday, and residents were allowed to sift through the wreckage.

Elk City school officials have canceled classes for Wednesday.

Meanwhile to the northwest, residents in Barron County are trying to move forward after a tornado leveled most homes in a trailer park near Chetek (sheh-TEK'). It destroyed dozens of homes, killed a man, 46-year-old Eric Gavin, and injured at least 25 other people, some seriously, authorities said.

Walker's declaration covers Barron, Jackson and Rusk counties.

In Elk City, a community of about 13,000 people roughly 110 miles west of Oklahoma City, Matt Bynum considers himself lucky.

Storms barreled through a large swath of the central US and tornadoes reportedly touched down in four other states, including Kansas, Nebraska, Texas and Oklahoma, where another man was killed trying to flee to safety.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald says at least 20 people were injured when a tornado hit a mobile home park near Chetek in western Wisconsin.

"Once you get between 90 and 120 miles per hour, that's enough to destroy a mobile home", Hultiquist said.

Local NBC affiliate claims Predators advance to Stanley Cup Final
Defensively, the Nashville Predators are allowing 2.7 goals per game and are killing 80.9 percent of their opponents power plays. The Predators have been the better team all series and only fell in Game 2 thanks to more than 20 penalty minutes on the road .

Early estimates indicated more than two dozen were hurt.

Fitzgerald said 17 people were taken to area hospitals with about 5-10 more people having minor injuries and refusing treatment.

Sheriff Fitzgerald said along with the mobile home park and surrounding areas, there is extensive storm damage around a nearby lake.

"A few trailers on the perimeter are still standing, but everything in the middle is completely gone", Chetek police Officer Cody Stauner told the Leader-Telegram.

"Our rapid assessment teams were out as the storms were rolling late last night, and today we set up our mobile command unit", Porter said. He said her sister also had her 2-month-old grandson, Nolan, in the home when the storm hit, and they had nowhere to go but the bathtub. "The tornado traveled easterly through the county, touching down in several places".

Forecasters say the storms could bring "strong long-track tornadoes" in central and southern Kansas into western Oklahoma along with baseball-sized hail.

Possible tornadoes were spotted over Weyerhaeuser, Wisconsin, near McLean, Texas, and in Bucklin, Kansas, Tuesday.

A team from the National Weather Service is expected to arrive in Chetek Wednesday morning to assess the damage and make a final determination on the severity of the tornado.
